New Community Hepatology Service
We are very excited to inform you of a new service that we have established in conjunction with Salisbury Foundation NHS Trust.
Hepatology is the study, prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases that affect the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas.
As some of you may be aware Jules, one of our Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP), previously worked as the Hepatology ANP at the hospital and worked primarily with patients with a range of liver conditions including metabolic fatty liver disease. Untreated metabolic fatty liver disease can progress to more serious issues with the liver, but it can be managed and even at times reversed with changes in diet and lifestyle. This makes early detection of metabolic fatty liver problems essential and can help alongside other metabolic disease management such as type II diabetes, coronary heart disease, and strokes.
Sarum Health Group and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust have developed a service pathway to enable these patients to be seen in a dedicated community held clinic. Our hope is that by providing this service we can prevent further liver disease and promote healthier lifestyles alongside safe alcohol limits. Please rest assured that this service will not impact upon the general practice service that we will continue to provide to you all.
